Discuss the use of sound in the film Psycho (1960 by Alfred Hitchcock) Essay
Discuss the use of sound in the film Psycho (1960 by Alfred Hitchcock) - Essay Example Hitchcock work was previously known to be filled with romantic elements. In psycho, Hitchcock tries to subvert these elements; in fact, romance is particularly elusive as the audience is denied clarity or fulfillment of romance throughout the film. In this work, the past of most characters is catching up with their present. Destructive histories of the main characters are the prelude of their ruin. For example, Marion one of the main characters skips town after stealing $ 40,000 from her realtor firm. This is catching up with her as an investigation is launched and she is a key suspect. Though the film had its share of controversy perhaps its biggest attribute is how sound and voice were used. This paper will review how Hitchcock uses sound to enhance key themes in the film Psycho. The shower scene is conceivably one of the most tantalizing in the film Psycho, it signaled the pivotal point of the movie. In 2013, it was voted as the best shower scene of all time. The US Library of Con gress has since selected the film Psycho for preservation at the NFR. Though Hitchcock had intended to have imagery as the imposing feature in this scene, Herrmann works his magic to bring out an authentic mise-en-scene by using sound. ... Ultimately, this score managed to bring out the abyss of human longing, regret, psyche, and fear. Though this sequence only run for three minutes, Hitchcock put a lot of work to come up with it. It has been alleged that the scene took about a week to shot and incorporated more that seventy different cameras. The sound track in this scene is made up of shrieking violins, cello, and violas that sound like birds (Hitchcock, Alfred, and Bill 262). The sounds that depict a knife entering human flesh, screams by Marion and the blood on the shower complete a captivating mise-en-scene. Hitchcock makes good use of sound effect to enhance specific themes. Both synchronous and asynchronous sound effects are evident throughout the film. In the sequence were Bates is chasing after Lila, on discovery of Mrs. Bates, she whispers ââ¬Å"Mrs. Bates,â⬠but mother does not respond. The silence that unfolds, then the swivel sound of her chair and finally screams by Lila on discovery of the desiccat ed body of mother is a classic example of use of synchronous sound effects. In this instance, Hitchcock uses synchronous sound effects to depict the theme of violence and grimness. Use of asynchronous sound effects is also evident in this work. In the scene where Arbogast is killed, though we do not get to see mother in this scene, we can hear her stumbling feet on the stairs as she chases Arbogast. The enhancement of the stumbling feet sounds underscores the danger that faces Arbogast. This sequence clearly accentuates themes such as dread and survival. Hitchcock makes good use of dialogue to characterize his plot. Throughout the film, the dialogue that unfolds bounces the viewer from one scene to the next. The tension between the conversation between

Bm - Essay Example The market is also extremely segmented with a number of manufacturers in the economy, compact, medium and premium segments. Many car manufacturers have gone bankrupt and closed because they could not control costs, improve quality and many of these firms did not have a strong leader with a good vision. BMW like a few of the manufacturers has managed to survive and grow, mainly because of the excellent leadership (Egri, 2000). This paper analyses the given BMW case study and presents details of the leadership at BMW and how it has managed to overcome the many problems. The paper first presents theories on leadership and then it analyses various leadership issues of the case study. Transformative Leadership: Transformation leadership is focussed at ushering in a strategic organisation change, in response to market forces that are technological, competitive or regulatory. The leadership comes into practice where there is a instability and transition and changes have to be done to transform an organisation to make it competitive. The change that is envisioned may be disruptive and system wide and the leader needs to have the vision to balance a number of social, financial, and marketing forces (Zaccaro, 2001). Transactional Leadership: Transactional leadership is a rational exchange process in which subordinates needs are met if their performance measures up the leaders requirements indicated in explicit or implicit contract (Bass, 2007). Importance is on contractual requirements, meeting goals and obtaining rewards. Bass suggests leaders adapt their style to the current requirements so that the style may be transactional in one case and transformational leader another. The leadership style of Joachim Milberg who was appointed as the CEO and later that of Dr. Helmut Panke as the CEO after Milberg joined the supervisory board can be described

15 Shows You Didnt Know Were Spin-Offs
15 Shows You Didnt Know Were Spin-Offs People out there constantly complain that theres nothing to watch on TV, but there have been tons of shows out there that werent well known enough or good enough to survive. In addition to these, there are TV shows that are on right now that people are/arent watching because they have no clue what theyre linked to. Yes, there have been a great deal of shows on TV that have been left alone or treated like the plague by viewers. However, before you dismiss the next series you see on your guide, check out these past and present spin-offs that were thought to have potential and the surprising shows they spawned. You might find something to watch tonight! Breaking Bad/ Better Call Saul (AMC) Half spin-off and half prequel to the hugely successful AMC series Breaking Bad, the newly created Better Call Saul was highly anticipated by many who were enthralled by Walter Whites misadventures. Those who arent so hip to their Breaking Bad trivia may not have known the two were even related due to Saul (AKA Jimmy McGill) being a lawyer and the show itself being a darker legal drama as opposed to a prime time crime-fest. Okay, so theres still crime, but yeah, Better Call Saul was popular right away (it had the highest basic cable ratings in history when its first episode aired). Beverly Hills, 90210/ Melrose Place/ 90210/ Melrose Place (FOX) Beverly Hills, 90210 was a prime time teen drama that swirled around the oh-so-complicated lives of teens as they make their way through high school and college in one of the most affluent zip codes in the US. Grant Shows character, Jake Hanson, was introduced to the world via Kelly (Jenny Garth) in the original 90210s second season, and he lived at Melrose Place. Geared towards an audience of college kids and adults who could figuratively empathize with the trials and tribulations of attempting to make it in LA, Melrose Place featured stunning performances by Heather Locklear, Marcia Cross, and then teen heartthrob, Andrew Shue. Melrose Place and Beverly Hills,90210 were very successful and lasted seven and ten seasons respectively. However, the spin-offs 90210 (2008 for five seasons) and Melrose Place (2009 for one season) didnt fare as well, and ended up being nixed pretty quickly. Pawn Stars/ American Restoration/ Counting Cars/ Pawnography (History) Men all over the place who have watched Las Vegass family pawn shop reality series Pawn Stars probably already know this, but Counting Cars and American Restoration are both spin-offs of this antique-driven History Channel show. In fact, many episodes of Pawn Stars feature the head honchos of the two series when Rick enlists their services to provide appraisals of the various artifacts people bring into his familys shop. All three of the shows are still running on History along with a third Jeopardyà -like show Pawnography that started this last year and gives people an opportunity to win some of the treasures in Ricks shop. Bones/ The Finder (FOX) Aired for a single season back in 2012 on FOX, The Finder was a spin-off of the wildly popular Bones, which is currently in its 10th season. The main character, Walter (played by Geoff Stults), was introduced to Bones fans back in the 6th season of the show, and was followed around in his work for the first and only season of the spin-off. It is also the last known work of infamous The Green Mile actor Michael Clarke Duncan who played Leo Knox in the fated series. Degrassi Junior High/ Degrassi High/ Degrassi: The Next Generation (CBC/ CTV/MTV/ PBS/ TeenNick) Centuries ago, Degrassi Junior High followed the lives of young teens in Toronto. The continuation of the series saw the kids in DJH go to high school for, you guessed it, Degrassi High. The next spin-off was geared towards high school students as an after school special. There were original cast members from the previous two spin-offs who participated in Degrassi Talks, but it ended up fizzling out, making brief appearances during sex-ed classes all over Canada in the late 90s. The biggest show came in 2001 as DJHs teen mom Spikes daughter, Emma (Miriam McDonald), became a teen herself. Degrassi: The Next Generation was a huge hit on both sides of the border and helped propel stars like Nina Dobrev and Drake into their current careers. With a modernized list of teen issues, the show is still big and in its fourteenth season. The Vampire Diaries/ The Originals (The CW) Although the supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for a seventh season on The CW, they spawned a spin-off that focuses on TVD character Niklaus Mikaelson (played by Joseph Morgan) who was introduced during the second season of the show. The show is called The Originals and set in New Orleans after almost 100 years of the Mikaelson clan being gone from the city and the pressures of being a vampires, werewolves, and witches, oh my! Crocodile Hunter/ Bindi the Jungle Girl (Animal Planet/Discovery Kids) Given the fact that Steve Irwin was fatally shot in the heart by a stingray while filming one of his documentaries about wildlife, some may not remember our beloved Crocodile Hunter so much. His legacy as an animal-lover and wildlife advocate has been carried on by his wife, Terry, and their children. One of these, Bindi Irwin, landed herself her own nature show that was geared towards children and aired on both Animal Planet and Discovery Kids. The show provided highly educational material for kids all over the world and featured Steve before his 2006 death but only lasted two seasons. Now 16 years old, she still works with animals, so watch out for Bindi in the future. Toddlers Tiaras/ Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo (TLC) As controversial as childrens pageants are, TLC felt that its 2009 series Toddlers Tiaras was popular enough to make a spin-off. Outspoken little one, Honey Boo-Boo, was given her own show Here Comes Honey Boo-Boo that aired in 2012 and went for four seasons. It was like a car accident with redneck trailer trash parents trying to raise their kids to be like mama and papa bear (or Mama June and Sugar Bear), complete with farts, belches, and some gross-ass substance lurking between Mama Junes toes. Eventually, Mama June landed herself in some hot water when she and her husband became estranged; Mama June later became romantically involved with a registered sex offender and child predator who quickly came to live with the family. The show was canceled because of it. -and there went Honey Boo-Boo. MadTV/ Key Peele (Comedy Central) The Comedy Central sketch show Key Peele is hilarious, and of course it is! The show is a spin-off of FOXs MadTV, their answer to SNL,which aired for fourteen seasons. The main stars of Key Peele are former MadTV cast members Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key who often worked together in sketches and had an unmistakable chemistry as comedians. Key Peeles fifth season returns to Comedy Central later this year. The Daily Show/ The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore / The Colbert Report (Comedy Central) Everyone has been talking about Trevor Noah replacing Jon Stewart as host of the long-running Comedy Central hit after his 16 years at the helm. Although its two spin-offs The Colbert report and The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore are often misconstrued as copycats, Stephen Colbert and Larry Wilmore have The Daily Show and Jon Stewart to thank for their success as news satire and comedy anchors on their own respective shows. Now, all three are out there providing laughs and poking fun at the top news of the day in politics, pop culture, and much more. JAG/ The entire NCIS collection (CBS) Im not sure how many people out there watched JAG, but the Navy-themed legal drama somehow lasted for nine seasons on CBS. Once the show hit its eighth season, a few characters from NCIS were introduced to viewers, and the procedural drama has been going for thirteen of its own seasons and has resulted, much like its rival CSI, in additional spin-offs that set in New Orleans and Los Angeles. Good Morning, Miss Bliss/ Saved By the Bell (NBC) Technically a reboot of Disneys Good Morning, Miss Bliss, NBCs smash hit with teens in the early 90s was the birthplace of many Hollywood stars careers. Saved by the Bell differed from Good Morning, Miss Bliss in that it was set in High School rather than junior high. Saved by the Bell focused on the lives of students Kelly Kapowski, Screech, Zack Morris, et al. right through to college while GMMB was all about their teacher Miss Bliss. Saved by the Bell ran from 1989 to 1993 and was the American equivalent of Degrassi for tons of kids growing up in the 90s. However, the college spin-off and resurfaced teen series didnt do well with viewers or critics, so they were both canceled after giving them both a fair chance to succeed. Jackass/ Viva la Bam/ Wildboyz/ The Jackass Movies (MTV) The disgusting, funny, and very successful Jackass franchise has seen many spin-offs. The original series aired for three seasons on MTV between 2000 and 2002, and saw cast member Bam Margera break off to film his hectic life at home in Viva la Bam. The series was much like Jackass but definitely more raunchy and hardcore in terms of pranks and stunts, which were unleashed on his friends and family. Chris Pontius and Steve-O branched out too with their own show entitled Wildboyz where the two traveled the world, messed around with exotic animals and cultures while performing dangerous stunts on camera. Jackasss spin-offs are still their six films are the most successful. Two were considered bonus footage reels and were released as Jackass 2.5 and Jackass 3.5, and another was Academy Award-nominated Bad Grandpa. Although critics are never happy with them, and Ryan Dunn, one of the main cast members, passed away in a tragic car accident after Jackass 3Ds release, director Jeff Tremaine has hinted that there may be another film in the making, and it might go down in Australia. Chicago Fire/ Chicago P.D. (NBC) As if it wasnt completely obvious by the name, right? Well, some people dont know that the two Chicago-based prime time dramas were linked. Both are very successful with Chicago Fire currently in its third season and Chicago P.D. being renewed for its third season earlier this year on NBC. If you watch, you can see the characters interlocked during emergencies and investigations that require both law enforcement and fire. The Tracey Ullman Show/ The Simpsons (FOX) Hosted by former Brit pop star Tracey Ullman, The Tracey Ullman Show was FOXs second prime time show following in the footsteps of MarriedWith Children and featured a lot of comedy, animated shorts, and musical skits. The variety show was on for four seasons between 1987 and 1990. During the first two years of its broadcasts, the show featured shorts made by none other than Matt Groening, which happened to commonly feature everyones fave yellow family The Simpsons. The animation portion of the show was cut in 1989 so that it could try its luck in its own half hour slot, and there was The Simpsons. -and theyre still going after 26 seasons!

No Lift Policy
The given scenario has provided a clear perspective to the correct attitude and compliance ability of the nurses to the ââ¬Ëno liftââ¬â¢ policy of The Area of Health Services. The complaint has a certain gravity of issue to address but analyzing the situation further may lead to a conclusive approach whether the nurses have actually done the right thing or not. The ââ¬Ëno liftââ¬â¢ policy was designed to prevent and reduce nurses' injuries when lifting or moving patients (Morieson, 2000). As stated in the complaint of the relative, Mrs. McDonald was forced to lift herself up in bed. This phrase may lead to a conclusion that the patient is actually capable of doing the act without any assistance from the nursing staff. She is at least aware of her capability to do a minimal procedure by herself. Although the core service for a nurse is to provide assistance, there are some restrictions that are implemented to benefit both the staff and the patient. Apparently, there is a motion on the nursing profession that provides a chance for the patients to be more independent. This will eventually permit the individual to carry his tasks for self fulfillment. The complaint also stated that the two nurses were negligent of the patient. This may seem to be the case for the relative but the staff actually had the good attitude of complying with the regulations of the ââ¬Ëno liftââ¬â¢ policy. They have provided a rather complementary act by protecting their own health as well as giving opportunities for Mrs. McDonald to eventually start rehabilitating herself. As a matter of fact, if they had neglected the ââ¬Ëno liftââ¬â¢ policy just to satisfy the relativeââ¬â¢s impressions, they might have been subject to a very high risk of injury. This is one good example on how competent a nurse can be. A professional acts in accordance with own competency level and recognized standards of enrolled nursing practice (ANMC). There is another consideration that should be realized regarding the nursesââ¬â¢ manner in the situation. They have attempted to assist Mrs. McDonald in the most effective way by helping her climb up in bed without lifting her. The patient was able to receive sustainable assistance by guiding her body and gently holding her up to the correct position. This somehow shows that the nurses were still aware what was happening and that made them consider implementing the correct nursing practice enveloped in the nursing practice policy. In a bigger picture, the nurses did the most appropriate approach by not lifting Mrs. McDonald. They were just following a simple rule for the benefit of both parties involved, the patient and themselves. However, the submission of a complaint could have been avoided if there was a complete transparent communication between the nurse and the relative. As stated in the nurse code of ethics, the nurse has a responsibility to inform people about the nursing care that is available to them, and people are entitled morally to accept or reject such care (ANMC, 1993). In this case, it would have been ideal to inform the relative about the ââ¬Ëno liftââ¬â¢ policy for mutual understanding. Moreover, the nurses should have at least questioned Mrs. McDonald if she actually is capable to lift herself independently. This affirmation may have provided a different perception on the side of the relative since it is the patientââ¬â¢s own judgment about her capability that is of great importance. The complete cooperation of Mrs. McDonald and the nurses should have been the most effective factor to avoid this kind of complaint scenario. References: ANMC. 1993. The State Should Stay Out of the Employment Relationship
The employment relationship may be defined as the relationship between employer and employee over the terms and conditions of employment (Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson 2009). In Australia, the industrial relations had become a big issue, so ââ¬Å"following the 24 November 2007 Federal election, the Rudd Labor Government began work on its promises to re-shape Australiaââ¬â¢s industrial relations system. â⬠(Riley & Sheldon 2008) However, some people think that the state should stay out the employment relationship. This essay will argue that the state should stay in the employment relationship because it makes the roles and has the rights and responsibilities for the employee and employer in working environment. The state is an influential actor in employment relations (Bray 2012). It protects the employee and employer, set industrial disputes, establishes the health and safety standards, the minimum wages and maximum working hours. There is a large body of statute law (legislat ion) that regulates employment relations in Australia at both the federal and state level (Bray 2012).Such as Racial Discrimination Act 1975 and Sex Discrimination Act1984 for anti-discrimination, Common Law and Statute Law for the occupational health and safety (OHS). The main apparatuses of the state for employment relations are state and federal government departments, agencies, tribunals and courts (Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson 2009). At federal level, the functions of a number of existing agencies and tribunals will be brought together in 2010 under one body known as ââ¬ËFair Work Australiaââ¬â¢ (Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson 2009).Also there are some other organisations like Australian Industrial Registry, Work Choices, and National Employment Standards and so on. This essay will analyse two key arguments to explain why the state should stay in the employment relationship. Firstly, this essay will argue this topic from the issue of discrimination in Australia including ag e discrimination, sex discrimination racial discrimination and so on.In the case of Australia, comprehensive, albeit fragmented, anti-discrimination legislation has been enacted which prohibits the use a wide range of criteria in any and all aspects of employment decision-making, including recruitment, selection, training, compensation and separation (Bennington & Wein 2000). Secondly, this essay will provide the support of occupational health and safety (OHS) to prove the state should stay in the employment relationship.According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, a work related injury survey indicated a 53 out of every 1000 workers had experience some kind of injury or illness in the workplace (Alice 2012). Overall, this essay will make a conclusion; combine these two main points to argue that the state should stay in the employment relationship. Norris (as cited in Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson, 2009, p. 225) states that discrimination occurs where members of one group of peo ple are denied opportunities to develop their capabilities and denied equal rewards for equal capabilities. In Australia, there are several kinds of discrimination such as age, gender, racial and disability. For these discriminations, the state enacted a range of anti-discrimination legislations which are supported by the federal Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) such as Age Discrimination Act 2004, Sex Discrimination Act 1984, Racial Discrimination Act 1975 and Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Age stereotyping appears to affect older people, whose situation receives much less attention than the problem of youth unemployment (Encel 1999). In Australia, age discrimination in working environment is alive and well.Research by Macdermott (2011) state that some state and territory legislation dates back almost two decades, and in 2004 the Australian Government enacted specific legislation outlawing age discrimination which is Age Discrimination Act 2004. By now, it has been operated for eight years and prohibits the discrimination on the basis of age. Recent research vindicates this prediction, demonstrating that women at all levels of management still report gender discrimination as a barrier to their advancement in Australia (Metz & Moss 2008). The gender pay gap is also reflected in the low numbers of women in leadership positions (Goward 2004).Therefore, the state enacted Sex Discrimination Act 1984 to assist the government for this issue. Under the Sex Discrimination Act it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of gender, marital status, pregnancy and family responsibility (Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson 2009). Racial discrimination includes race, colour, belief and national or ethnic origin. Australia is a multicultural country; a large number of people are from different countries. They have different cultural background like language, race, colour, belief and so on. Therefore, the racial discrimination has become one of the most serio us discriminations in Australia. For prohibiting it, Australia government legislate the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. Disability has many forms. According to Brazenor (2002), ââ¬Ëa disability is defined as any limitation, restriction, impairment â⬠¦ has lasted or is likely to last six months. ââ¬â¢ Loudoun, McPhail & Wilkinson (2009) also indicated that the unemployment rate for those with a disability (8. 6%) was higher than those without a disability (5%). The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 has already operated in many areas for several years and protected the rights of people who are disabled.Another prominent explanation for why the state should stay in the employment relationship is the health and safety. Mayhew and Peterson (as cited in Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson, 2009, p. 257) defined OHS as the physical, physiological and psychosocial conditions of an organisationââ¬â¢s workforce, related to aspects of work and the work context. Health and safety is an em ployerââ¬â¢s duty that overrides all other management responsibilities. The role of effective OHS management is to improve OHS conditions and reduce risks that exist at a workplace (Loudoun, Mcphail & Wilkinson 2009).There are a lot of psychological and physical hazards in the workplace such as stress, chemical and biological agents and so on. For the OHS issue, there are two main parts of laws in legal regulation in Australia. Firstly is the Common Law. It is made by judge or court based on precedent. Under the Common Law, it involves Criminal Law which is initiated by the state and Civil Law that is initiated by an individual. The second part is the Statute Law which is made by the parliament. There are two main bodies of statute law in health and safety including Workers Compensation Law and Health & Safety Acts. The Workers Compensation Law aims to provide system of financial protection for all employers who suffer injury, illness or death due to work-related injury. The emplo yers will get paid even if it is not their faults. About the Health and Safety Acts, Its aim is to prevent workers being injured in the first place. However, the key concept of ââ¬Ëduty of careââ¬â¢ emerged in common law, not statute law. In conclusion, because of the state makes roles for the employment relationships and protects the employee and employerââ¬â¢s rights, the state should stay in the employment relationship in Australia. This essay provided two key arguments to explain and prove the topic which were the discrimination and OHS in the workplace. For the discrimination in employment relationship, the state enacted a serious of Acts including Sex Discrimination Act, Age Discrimination, Racial Discrimination and Disability Discrimination Act. On the other hand, the state made a number of laws such as Common Law and Statute Law for the OHS issues in the workplace. Both two arguments are all relevant to todayââ¬â¢s Australian workplace and expose concerning questi ons regarding the future.

The Lord of The Flies â⬠English Essay
The Lord of The Flies ââ¬â English Essay Free Online Research Papers The Lord of The Flies English Essay There could be many factors contributed to the boyââ¬â¢s destruction of society on the island. But, the main factors are proven in three of the many themes. The struggle for power between Ralph and Jack led to destruction of the island because power can be either used or abused. The dark side of human nature can also contribute because it is the evil in people that brings out the worst in them. Finally the fear of the unknown also led to destruction because what people fear can cause them to do things that can cause harm or hurt to others or themselves. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding the struggle for power, the dark side of human nature, and the fear of the unknown all contribute to the destruction of the boyââ¬â¢s makeshift society on the island. To begin with, the constant battle for power ultimately leads to the breakdown of society on the island. The first instance of the struggle for power is between Ralph and Jack. This is shown clearly when Jack says ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s not a hunter. Heââ¬â¢d never got us meat. He isnââ¬â¢t perfect and we donââ¬â¢t know anything about him. He just gives orders and expects people to obey him for nothing. All this talk- ââ¬Å"(Golding,140). This quote illustrates the back and forth battle between Ralph and Jack. They both share common differences which contradict each other. One might want one thing while the other would want another, this would make it difficult on the group as they would have to choose which person to follow. Secondly, Jacks craving for power also leads to the breakdown of society when Jack states ââ¬Å"Who thinks Ralph oughtnââ¬â¢t to be chief, hands up, whoever wants Ralph not to be chief?â⬠(140). This quote shows how Jack is in constant need of pow er and how is always attempting to take power from the chief, Ralph. He believes that the strongest should rule with brute force and therefore he should be chief. Also, by taking the power from Ralph he believes that there will be no more interference as Ralph could be the only one to oppose him. Jack tries to use authoritian power to try and gain control. Lastly, Jacks persistent battle with Ralph to gain control and be chief and lead the tribe is demonstrated when Jack says ââ¬Å"Listen all of you. Me and my hunters are living along the beach at the flat rock. We hunt and feast and have fun. If you want to join come and see us. Perhaps weââ¬â¢ll let you join. Perhaps notâ⬠(155). In this instance, after jack is turned down for leader in the original tribe leaves to create his own tribe thus leaving the group demolished. He believes that the tribe Ralph is leading is not proper and he is the only chief on the island. To end off with, the craving and struggle for power ultim ately lead to the destruction of society the boys created on the island. To start off with, the darkness of the human heart can also be blamed for destruction of society on the island. Firstly, the boys start off as innocent boys looking for rescue but later turn dark as proven in the quote ââ¬Å"The afternoon wore on, hazy and dreadful with damp heat; The sow staggered her way ahead of them, bleeding and mad, the hunters followed wedded to her in lust. Excited by the long chase and the dropped blood.â⬠. This quote shows the boys dark thirst for blood. Later in the novel the boys completely dismiss their old values by constantly killing. Even the courageous leader Ralph has his hand at killing. All this killing shows how the darkness of humans can be shown. Also, the boys show darkness again in the killing of Simon ââ¬Å"At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock and leaped on the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws.â⬠(168). The darkest act of the boys is the kil ling of Simon because all the boys can be blamed for his death not just a few. This diminishes all that is good and proper on the island. Simon is sacrificed to stop darkness just as Jesus was. Finally, the boys darkness is proven again in the killing of the wise Piggy shown in this quote ââ¬Å"Piggys arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pigs after its been killed. Then the sea breathed again, in a long, slow sigh, the water boiled white and pink over the rock and when it went back again, sucking in, the body of piggy was gone.â⬠(200) To Justify, the selfishness that comes along with the darkness lead to the death of the rational thinking on the island. The darkness that was shown in piggys killing is at the point of the novel where all the boys except Ralph are savages. The savagery of the boys shows how dark the human soul can become. The evil that comes along with the darkness of human nature and the deaths of simon and piggy help lead to destruction of society. Charging Children as Adults - Essay Example With matters dealing with criminal justice, the method is not much different. First, the issue has to be stated, then it is discussed, and conclusions are drawn. Where steps look like they may have been skipped, the research objectives are within the job description of solving crime, and methodology and data collection is done during the discussion of the issue if it has not been done already. The matter at hand for this discussion is that of charging children as adults for the crimes they commit. When children are charged as adults for crimes, it can leave a permanent mark on their record that they will never be able to outlive. It is believed by some that this method of criminal justice will serve as a warning to those who would otherwise do harm to others, saving untold numbers of people from harm and homicide. Others believe that the children who are sentenced to these kinds of charges are from states of disenfranchisement, with matters only made worse by the fact that where they once did not believe they would overcome their situations, they are now supported in their own conclusions, guaranteeing them a life of less opportunity than those who may commit the same crimes, but do not suffer the same consequences as a result of the advocacy they receive from their community. In conducting researching for issues in the criminal justice system, the two most common methods are quantitative and qualitative (Maxfield; Babbie, 23). Quantitative analysis is that which deals with concrete facts, or quantities.

The second essential element of contract i.e. proper communication was absent between Sally and the parties. Although Peter has offered a deal to Sally regarding purchasing of the bike, without his awareness the offer of Peter has been accepted by Sally which was her intentional communication for selling. Furthermore, communication should be made or certified by the offeror. With respect to mutual consideration, it can be observed that the contract had lack of consideration. Although Peter and Burt had specified that they expect to purchase the bike, they had not promised about purchasing. Ultimately, there was no assurance of parties about purchasing. Peter and Burt had not specified any time for purchase in the e-mail and Sally also did not approve any reasonable time for delivery of the bike to Peter. Without a reasonable time, offer cannot be measured as lawful. Step 4: Conclusion Judging from the above aspects, it can be observed that Sally has not made proper contract with any of them i.e. Peter and Burt. The Kennedy Space Center Essay Example for Free
The Kennedy Space Center Essay I am the most typical American man who is born in Pensacola Florida. Most people dream of visiting Florida, but I get to live there. What I find interesting about Florida is that it was part of Spain until 1845, when it became a State of the United States; making it the twenty seventh State to join the Union. Most of the population in other states has to shop at a grocery store for oranges or orange juice, but for myself, orange groves are nearby and I can smell the fresh ripe oranges that ripened on the trees and are available for my breakfasts for when ever I chose. What I find humorous at times when I hear other people speak of Florida is our Alligators and that we should be fearful of them. But we are not, they are just part of our life style and they are much protected from the government. Even if the Alligator is walking on a sidewalk, it is illegal to remove them, the ideal of the situation is to give them total respect and stay out of their way. With the ocean nearby, I get to fish when ever I can. Living with my grandparents, my grandpa always went with me. After casting out our lines, I always surrendered to one of his famous stories about the fish the got away. I chuckle to myself just remembering those stories, but one thing for sure; it was a time when my grandpa Willy and I would bond the most. At the end of the day, I would stand side by side with Grandpa Willy and clean our daily catch, often having races to see who could beat who. Sometimes the scales would fly! When it would be done and over, the smell of fresh fish would fill our senses, making all that work worth while. In my spare time, I sit in front of my television playing video games. Halo is my favorite! I like it because it is a combat game with lots of action. I get to be the Master Chief who fights to protect my planet. There are aliens who come from far away to fight to take over my planet and I have to fight them and kill them to protect the planet. I utilize all my army gear to fight these distorted aliens. I even go to their planets with my Banche which is a flying aircraft and is loaded with necessary weapons to succeed my strengths mission. The object is to take over their planet as well. If I use the Blanche, or the Warthog or I may chose to move in the tank, what ever the case may be, I am assured to have the necessary weapons to be successful. When I am not playing the video games, I am a typical male who checks out the ââ¬Å"hottiesâ⬠at the mall. My buds and I just hang around, trying to look not interested but we donââ¬â¢t miss a thing. But the ways I have some down time is to put on my headphones and jam to the ââ¬Å"Beastie Boyââ¬â¢sâ⬠, and look through some car magazines. I like to get my hands dirty and love hearing my engine of my 1969 engine purr. I spent many pain staking hours working on that machine, but I successfully was able to soup up my car and am the envious of many of my peers as I drive it to my school. Finally, when I am done with school, I am going to concentrate on becoming a lawyer. Thinking of our Sunshine State and all of our sixty seven counties I feel there is room for someone like me who will work hard to help out with some areas like International Trade; Tourism, which Florida has seventy six point eight million visitors alone in 2004 and is the top traveled state; Space Industry, which employs something like fifteen thousand employees at the Kennedy Space Center; Agriculture, Florida leads with farming income from orange groves and orange juice and the University Research, five million dollars are being sponsored for research at the Florida University. I feel no matter what area of law I would go into, I would be protecting companies or people. No matter if I would be working in Space or working for the common farmer; what ever the case may be I feel it could be very challenging and interesting at the same time. Another area of my interest is in Math. Math comes easier for me and I feel no matter what area of any professions I may go into, Math will be really important to know. Whatever the case, I love working with people in general and math is definitely one of my and I think it could be fun teaching it to students. I can envision myself in front of a class with eager eyes looking up to me to learn a new gained knowledge of how math can be applied to our daily lives. Most people feel that how is Algebra, Core Math, Calculus, Trigiometry, we never really use in our daily lives; but in reality we use them daily without knowing that we do. People who work not only in teaching, but in some fields like Chemist, Farming, Architecture, Wood workers (cabinet makers), and in any field that constitutes measuring of some sort. Teaching it would be a challenge of its own. That would mean I would have to be more organized than what I am. I am still leaving my clothes on the floor, and I may even have separate piles of clothing if I get rushed like; a pile of clean clothes, pile of only worn once clothing and can be worn again if sprayed, and then there is the must be washed, we all know those ones when the jeans stand on their own legs without help and the shirts smell strongly of the partying of the night before. But still even if organization could be the worst challenge, I know that all of my commitment and hard work would pay off with my studentââ¬â¢s achievements. Knowing a head of time that Math is one of the harder subjects to teach because it is the least interesting and sometimes really hard for some people, I know I would have to be sensitive to the children who do not have the same appreciation of Math as I do and make it as interesting as possible. How I would do that I am not sure as of yet, but I know I could achieve that goal. Knowing that math is all around us in our daily lives I will have to just grasp some of the ways they use it and incorporate it in the teaching for starters. What ever the case may be if I go into being a lawyer or teacher, I know that it will present its own challenges and with hard work and dedication I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. I love working with people, though I am a little shy at times, I know I can be a true asset to any field I venture into.

Analysis Of Marketing Mix
Analysis Of Marketing Mix We took up Amul Ice Cream as a product for our study and analysis. The project basic objective was to acquire a deeper understanding of the product and apply the concepts related to marketing mix, 4Ps of marketing and the consumer behavior as learnt in the course. The project was studied in three parts: Marketing mix of Amul Ice cream Study of the consumer behavior with the help of a structured questionnaire Marketing mix of two main competitors; Kwality Walls and Mother Dairy, suggestions and foresight about Amul Ice Creams In the first part, we studied the marketing mix of Amul ice cream which was further divided into four parts: Product, Price, Place and Promotion. MAIN CONTENTS Note: all corrections/additions/reasons in lieu of corrections are done below the remarks itself. SESSION 1 Marketing Mix of Amul Ice cream Amul Ice Cream was launched on 10th March, 1996 in Gujarat. It was launched on the platform of Real Milk. Real Ice Cream given that it is a milk company and the wholesomeness of its products gives it a competitive advantage. In 1997, Amul ice creams entered Mumbai followed by Chennai in 1998 and Kolkata and Delhi in 2002. Nationally it was rolled out across the country in 1999. It has combated competition from the established players like Walls, Mother Dairy and achieved the No 1 position in the country. This position was achieved in 2001 and it has continued to remain at the top. Today the market share of Amul ice cream is 38% as against the 9% market share of HLL, thus making it 4 times larger than its closest competitor. Product Amul has added a vast variety of flavours to its ever growing range. Currently it offers a selection of 220 products. Amul has always brought newness in its products and the same applies for ice creams. The broad heads under which Amul markets its ice creams are as follows: Royal treat range (rajbhog, cappuccino, chocochips, butterscotch, tutti frutti) Nut-o-mania range (kaju draksh, kesar pista, roasted almond, kesar carnival, badshahi badam kulfi, shista pista kulfi) Utsav range (anjir, roasted almond) Simply delicious range (vanilla, strawberry, pineapple, rose, chocolate) Natures treat (alphonso mango, fresh litchi, anjir, fresh strawberry, black current) Sundae range (mango, black current, chocolate, strawberry) Millennium ice cream (cheese with almonds, dates with honey) Milk bars (chocobar, mango dolly, raspberry dolly, shahi badam kulfi, shahi pista kulfi, mawa malai kulfi cream, green pista kulfi) Cool candies (orange, mango), Cassatta, Tricone cones (butterscotch, chocolate), megabite-almond cone), Frostik 3 layer chocolate bar, Fundoo range exclusively for kids, Slimscoop fat free frozen dessert (vanilla, banana, mango, pineapple), Health Isabcool In January 2007, Amul introduced SUGAR FREE ProLife Probiotic Wellness Ice Cream, which was a first in India. This range of SUGAR FREE, LOW FAT Diabetic Delight ProLife Probiotic Wellness Ice Cream is created for the health conscious. Price Amul has managed to stay ahead of its competitors by providing quality products at competitive prices, maximizing customer value. Amul followed the penetration pricing strategy and entered the market with prices much less than the leader in the market kwality Walls. This helped Amul in achieving great success at the start. Amul also captured a lot of the lower end untapped market due to its pricing strategy and gradually acquired a market share of 12-15% in the first few years. The pricing has been a major advantage of the brand. Following Amul, other players lowered their prices consequent to which Amul now follows a competitive pricing as its major strategy. Range of price minimum and maximum? Amul frostiks start from Rs 10 and go upto Rs. 20. The prolife pro-biotic icecream is priced at Rs. 15 for 125 ml. the super saver take away packs start from as low as Rs.110 for 2 litre whereas catering the higher end, exotica range starts from Rs. 120 per litre brick and extends upto Rs. 160 for different flavours. Place Ice cream, being a perishable item, it is very important to have a good distribution channel. Amuls head office is at Anand. The entire market is divided into 5 zones. The zonal offices are located at Ahmadabad, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. Moreover there are 49 Depots located across the country and Amul caters to 13 Export markets also. Amul follows four marketing channels to distribute its ice creams. Level Zero also called direct marketing channel consists of a manufacturer selling directly to the final customers how? Amul has entered into direct retailing through Amul Utterly Delicious parlours created in major cities Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Surat. These parlours surpass the regular softy and ice-cream scoop offering joints in terms of popularity and look set to give the more established ice cream brands in the cities a run for their money. In these parlours, icecream is stored and transported in a frozen condition (- 28o centigrade or below). They also keep frozen pizzas and frozen paneer. Level One contains one selling intermediary such as retailer to the final customers Level Two has two intermediaries typically distributor and the retailer Level Three comprises the distributor, retailer with the jobber in between Promotion Amul doesnt follow an aggressive marketing strategy for its ice creams. In the beginning, TV commercials for products such as amul tricone, real milk ice cream, frostik and premium ice cream were seen frequently. However these commercials cannot be spotted now. Instead the company prefers a more direct approach to sales promotion strategy. Offers such as super saver packs, one plus one and the likes are often given to lure the consumers into buying. Apart from these, Amul Company as a whole with its advertising partner FCB-ULKA puts up its hoardings which are famous for their satirical take on current happenings, for its complete basket of products including ice cream. The main reason for Amul retaining its dominant position in the market despite a conservative marketing strategy is because all the market players in this product category follow the same kind of strategy, i.e. minimal exposure to electronic media and high on sales promotion technique. In such a scenario Amul has been successful in creating a niche for itself. Amuls entry into ice creams is regarded as successful due to the large market share it was able to capture within a short period of time. The differential pricing, quality of products and of course, the brand name made this possible. SESSION 2 Consumer Buying Behavior We studied the marketing mix of Amul ice creams. Now well study and analyze the behavior in terms of consumers decision making process and factors affecting their buying behavior. Consumer behavior is how individuals, groups, and organizations select, buy, use and dispose of goods, services and ideas to satisfy their needs and wants. Consumer passes through five stages in buying a product: Need Identification Information Search Evaluation of Alternatives Purchase of Product After Sales Service Consumers dont always pass through all the above stages while making a purchase. For many of products (mostly perishable), the kind of involvement in the buying process is low. Consumers tend to do a lot of brand switching for the sake of variety and novelty. While buying a regular brand of ice cream, one goes directly from the need for ice-cream to the purchase decision skipping information search and evaluation. Even if they are present, the time given to each of these is negligible as compared to other stages. This is very important part of consumer buying behavior which in turn affects the factors affecting the consumer behavior. If one is loyal to one brand he will repeatedly purchase that brand and flavor. However if one doesnt find that product, he is very likely to switch to other available brands without much effort and may start liking it. Factors affecting the consumer behavior: Various types of factors which affect the consumer behavior and lead them towards a particular ice-cream brand are as follows: Product specifications, variety, price range, promotion strategies, and availability of product (which forms an integral part in case of variety seeking products) Reference groups (family, friends , media etc) and their effect on choices Knowledge of other brands existing in the market and their positioning in the minds of the consumers Demographics age, gender, income group Situational occasions where a consumer buys a product Involvement in buying the product in terms of frequency of purchase Studying the consumer behavior: In the survey conducted, (sample size=60) well first do a general analysis studying the market and Amul ice-creams position in it. In second part of the analysis, well see how different age groups may behave differently in consuming ice cream. Methodology: Samples for the study consisted of people from the age group of 18-40. Samples were taken randomly where a structured questionnaire was mailed to the people and their responses recorded. The questionnaire had the following dimensions: Demographics of the respondents such as age, income group, occupation, gender Knowledge/awareness about the various brands available in the market Frequency of purchase of ice cream, place of purchase, price preferences, reference groups, Favorite brands vis-Ã -vis Amul in terms of ratings on the features of the product. Sample size: 60 respondents from the target population were approached to fill in the questionnaire. Result and discussion: The decision in buying ice cream is influenced by many factors such as taste, availability, pricing, packaging, variety of the product, occasions and mood and so on. Results of the data analysis will be studied in two parts: An overall analysis of all the factors. A comparative analysis of the age groups to analyze the difference in their behavior due to different age. Overall analysis: Demographics of the respondents: Data was collected with respect to four demographics of the sample; age, gender, income groups and occupation. Based on the analysis, it was observed that 68% of respondents were in the age group 18-24 and 32% in the age group 25-40. One third of the respondents were females. More than 50% of the samples were students owing to which the income range of less than 50000 Rs. bears the highest percentage in the income distribution. The following pie charts show the age, and income group distribution of the sample: Consumer behavior with respect to frequency of purchase and the occasions/moods leading the buying towards buying ice creams: The frequency of purchasing of ice creams is high. 7% and 35% of the respondents buy ice cream on a daily and weekly basis respectively. This implies that buying frequency for ice creams is fairly high. This influences the level of involvement in looking for the alternatives each time the buyer consumes an ice-cream. The consumer is more or less habitual own interpretation? in purchasing the ice cream due to which the 2 steps in buying behavior become redundant as already mentioned earlier. By habitual, we mean routine to be more precise. This can be seen in the following pie-chart which shows the frequency of purchase. Restating the data, 7% of the respondents are buying on a daily basis and 35% are doing so weekly. In terms of mood in buying, people generally buy ice-cream without any reason when buying very frequently. If they buy occasionally then the occasions on which buying is carried out on the occasions as given below: The samples are equally distributed over the occasions such as birthday, marriage, family outing, hanging out with friends, or part with the % of people consuming it with friends dominating the others. As far as choosing the flavor/brand of ice-cream is concerned, over 93% choose the flavor/brand themselves. It can be inferred that the influence of family and friends in choosing the ice-cream is very low and people go by their own choices while buying it. 5% of the people eat ice-cream flavors as decided by the family which may be the case when one is buying bricks of ice-cream. Rest 2% constitutes people who go by the friends choice in choosing the flavor/brand. Place of purchase and importance attached to packaging: More than 50% of the consumers buy ice cream from the corner shop of their colony. It signifies the importance of distribution channels and the kind of availability they need to have to maintain to create a position in the market. If they go out of stock they are at the risk of losing their customers to other competitors. The data infers that availability of Ice-creams are high in round the corner shop and Super markets whereas Malls may afford to go loose on all time availability. Regarding the packaging, 93% place importance on the packaging of the ice-cream which again makes it important for the brands to have a very attractive packaging in order to attract the consumers. Factors forming an important consideration for trying a new product/flavor: There are various factors which lead to trying out a new product launched in the market and make repeated purchases. The following pie diagram shows the constitution of various factors that may lead to trying out and repeated a new flavor, brand or product: It can be seen that taste forms the most important factor leading to buying of ice cream which is placed higher than the brand name also. It reemphasizes the fact that brand name of the ice-cream is not the most important. If the consumer likes the taste of other product, one may shift to the other brand. The 2nd most important factor is advertising. Ice-cream brands are generally low on their promotional strategies. However the importance of advertising with consumers is easily visible in the survey. For one fourth of the people, advertising is the force which leads them towards an ice-cream product. Most of the advertising for Ice-creams comes through billboards and hoardings and here Amul as a brand scores over others as the brand awareness of Amul is one the best. 2. Comparison of consumers favorite ice-cream and Amul ice-cream on various attributes: We asked our sample to rate their favorite ice-cream vis a vis Amul ice-cream on various attributes such as taste, packaging, price , variety and availability on a scale of 5 where 1 was the worst and 5 was the best (out of total samples 13 rated Amul as their favorite ice-cream also which is roughly 21% of the total samples). A comparative chart of the same is given below: Studying the parameters: Taste: People rate their favorite ice-cream as approx 3.7 (average of all the samples collected) whereas rate the Amul ice-cream as approx. 3.1. And as we saw that taste is the most important factor in determining the choice of consumers, how you can conclude this? Graph shows that Amul ice cream is lagging behind in this attribute to quite a large extent as compared to other factors. In the previous question, we had asked the consumers about the factors which would lead them to try out a new product/flavour/brand. The response was in favour of taste with over 50% of the respondents going for the same. We took five parameters in that question and weve taken the same in the rating scale also. So using the data from above, weve concluded that from these five factors, taste is the highest influence in making the choice for ice cream. Packaging: Favorite ice-cream stands at an average of approx 3.4 as against Amul ice cream which stands at 2.9. The company needs to work on its packaging also in order to attract the consumers. Price: Amul ice cream fairs slight better than the consumers favorite ice-cream. This is obvious as Amul is known for its lower range products. Kwality-walls among the other brands are known for slightly higher prices. Amul has been doing well on this front. Variety: Favorite ice-cream is rated at 3.4 Vis a Vis Amul rated at 2.8 on this parameter. Though Amul offers a wide range of products, but maybe people are not aware about the variety of the Amul ice-creams. Amul needs to create awareness among the consumers on this front. Availability: On the parameter of availability, people rate their favorite ice-cream as approx. 3.4 and Amul as 2.9. Amul has to ensure that it never goes out of stock due to the nature of buying behavior of the product. Awareness about other brands existing in the market: People are well aware about the brands in the market. Among the top 3 brands mentioned by the consumers, Amul and Kwality-walls feature the most among the two. For the 1st preference, Kwality-walls overtake the awareness whereas for the 2nd choice Kwality-walls and Amul stand at an equal rating. This is important from the point of view of Amul as the people who are variety seeking will switch over easily to the other brands if they are not happy with Amul. Among the brands that are well known to the customers, Amul, Kwality-walls and mother dairy are the most sought after brands. Other than these regulars brands, there are other brands such as Vadilal, havmor, Baskin Robbins, creambell, and others which constitute a small share in the market in terms of awareness level. Analysis with taking age, income (demographics) as the distinguishing factors: For analyzing the difference in factors leading to buying behavior due to difference in age, we have already divided the samples into 2 age groups 18-24 and 24-40 years. Frequency of purchase: Following is a chart depicting the total sample of people on the parameter of frequency of purchase divided age wise: It is clearly visible that 18-24 years consume ice-cream more frequently than the people in the age group of 25-40 years. 57% of people in the age group of 25-40 consume ice-cream occasionally which is only 31% in the case of the lower age group. On the other hand, the combined % of people consuming ice-cream on a weekly or daily basis for 24-40 year age group is only 25% as against 48% in case of 18-24 year olds with weekly consumption leading for the same. Factors consuming new ice cream product, brand or flavor: It can be observed from the above table that number of people preferring taste is much higher in case of 18-24 year olds. Also people in the age group of 24-40 years dont consider packaging or cheaper price as a leading factor while considering a new product. This is an important observation as Amul mainly sells on the lower price strategy. If it is offering a lower priced product, it needs to work on packaging as large numbers of people give importance to packaging in this group (also shown in the following chat). However it may or may not work so much on packaging if it is introducing a new product/flavor in the higher end markets. Willingness to buy sugar free ice cream at a higher price: To determine the level of health consciousness of the people and their willingness to buy the ice cream at a higher price if available, the data was collected, representation of which is given below: 70% of the people were not willing to buy the sugar free ice-cream at a higher price. This can be due to 2 factors: always better to ask from the respondents people are less health conscious people are price sensitive The options given to determine the same would not have been exhaustive. Possible the open-ended question wouldnt have been of much use. But yes, it is certainly better to ask from the respondents and due care would be taken next time. To further judge this, we distributed this data age wise to which how many people in which age group are willing to buy the ice-cream at a higher price. The representation of the findings is given below: In case of people in the age 25-40 years, over 42% of the people are willing to buy the sugar free ice cream if available at a higher price. However this falls to 32% In case of the age group 18-24 years. This can be again attributed to 2 factors: People in the lower age group are less health conscious or they are earning less so they are price sensitive or both. People in the higher age group are more health conscious or they are earning more so they can afford higher prices. Miscellaneous remarks about Amul ice creams: (optional in the survey) Amul is my favorite brand but more chocolate varieties are possible using different caramels and nuts. Its like since childhood I have an image that Kwality Walls is the best ice cream. Amul and Mother Dairy are my second best. They should come out with some good advertising campaigns for their ice creams and should really try out the social media to market their brand. It is good, but sometimes some flavors are out of market, especially mango flavor. The Amul ice cream should be readily available and the variety should be more. Also the marketing is very poor we do not see much. Amul seems to be a brand for common men the middle class, very well placed to cater to middle class people the biggest chunk of Indian populationalthough not very popular among the higher class These remarks about Amul ice cream highlight the fact that we have been saying all throughout out analysis. The variety in some products of Amul is not at par with the other brands or the needs of the consumers. The availability is on a lower side due to which some of the samples complained of the brand getting out of stock. Also the level of awareness of the ice creams of Amul among the consumers is very less due to which it suffers a lot. Amul needs to go aggressive on its promotion strategies so that it can expand its market share and perform well. Conclusion: From the above survey, we can conclude that major factors affecting Consumer behavior are Taste, Price, Packaging, Brand Perception and occasion. As Ice-cream is a variety seeking product, therefore the availability of Amul Ice-cream has a major impact on the actual consumption by the consumers and since Amul is very close to the market leader Kwality-walls. It has to take care of availability especially at round the corner stores and super markets where the sales of Ice-cream are maximum. Taste is considered the most important factor in determining the consumer behavior as per the survey. Amul Ice-cream is lagging behind in Taste as per the consumer perception when compared to Market leader. Attitude of the consumer is favorable towards Amul Ice cream and this can be seen through the comparative analysis of different brands in the market. Part of it can be attributed to Amuls brand perception across all the product categories countrywide. There is no significant difference in behavior towards purchasing Ice cream based on gender but the younger age group prefers to eat ice cream more than their older counterparts. Since most of the younger age group also falls in relatively lower income group, this shows the higher consumption trends by low income group in survey.

William Shakespeares Macbeth Essay example -- Shakespeare Witches Mac
The Witches or Weird Sisters play a major role in the brilliant tragedy Macbeth by William Shakespeare. The role of the Weird Sisters represents that equivocal evil in the nature of things which helps to deceive the human will. They are not mere witches although they have some of the powers of witches. Even though they were produced by nature, they share with angels a freedom from limitation of space and time, a power to perceive the causes of things, and to see some distance into human minds (Kermode 1309). The Witches have malicious intentions and prophetic powers that entice Macbeth and captivate his mind. Although they have no power to compel Macbeth, the Witches appeal to Macbethââ¬â¢s desires, eventually leading him to his tragic end. à à à à à The most obvious interpretation of the Witches is to see them as manifestations of evil in the world. They exist to tempt and torment people, to challenge their faith in themselves and their society. The Weird Sisters work on Macbeth by equivocation, that is, by ambiguous promises of some future state. These promises come true, but not in the way that the victim originally believed. The Witches have no power to compel belief, but they can obviously appeal strongly to an already existing inclination to force a personââ¬â¢s will onto events to shape the future to fit deepest desires (Corson 224-229). à à à à à At the beginning of Macbeth, there is no interpretation of the meaning of the storm. Dimly the audience is aware of the ongoing war, but Hecate creates an infernal trinity. Lightning, thunder, and rain all whirl into existence the three hideous curses upon humanity, the three Weird Sisters (Walker 146). 1Witch: ââ¬Å"When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 2Witch: When the hurly-burlyââ¬â¢s done, à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à When the battleââ¬â¢s lost and won. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 3Witch: That will be ere the set of sun. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 1Witch: Where the place? à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 2Witch: Upon the heath. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 3Witch: There to meet with Macbeth. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 1Witch: I come, Graymalkin à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 2Witch: Paddock calls à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à 3Witch: à à à à à à à à à à Anon! à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à All: Fair is foul, and foul is fair.â⬠Hover through the fog and filthy air.â⬠(I.i.1-10). These creepers of darkness that guide the Witches invoke the evil that eventually destroys Macbeth. Graymalkin, the night-se... ...er come. ââ¬Å"That will never be,â⬠(IV.i.93), he replies, as the Witches listen and laugh in silence knowing they have defeated Macbeth by encouraging equivocations. à à à à à The Witches are gleeful over their victim whose eyeballs have been seared by what has been shown to him. The First Witch says: ââ¬Å"Come, sisters, cheer we up his sprites,/And show the best of our delights:/ Iââ¬â¢ll charm the air to give a sound,/While you perform your antic round,/That this great king may kindly say/Our duties did his welcome pay.â⬠(IV.i.125-130). This expresses implicitly all that has been set forth in regard to the relations of the Witches to Macbeth. He is the first to welcome them as guest to his bosom, and they do their duty by him as agents of the devil (Corson 242). à à à à à Although the witches have no power to compel Macbeth, they appealed to what he has previously desired, eventually leading him to his tragic end. They have originated nothing within him. They have but harped upon what was already evil and stimulated these thoughts into acts (Corson 242). In his last scene, the Witches urge him on by more flattering equivocations, each turning false, luring Macbeth to an evil end. à à à à Ã
